Right - and if you read the first email to the Spanish team and the OT email on the design list, they said basically- the Slogan isn't gonna translate and you need to find something else. (and I'll add , which might be nada, in which case a suitable...adornment can be used to fill the space ) Anyway - I did translate the slogan, as a place holder, which it appears may have been a mistake - but one easily fixed with a follow up email I think..will do that. Thanks for being so engaged, Drew
I have gone back and read the slogan wiki page again. In the "Points to ponder" section, Brenden and then Bernhard tried to address the localisation of slogan(s)[1].
"About the localisation of the slogan: One slogan, loosely translated into languages, would seem best to me. In other words, not a literal translation, but same idea translated. (Suggested by Brenden Seibel) Most of the slogans don't translate easily. But we should try to find a common central conclusion. (Suggested by Bernhard Dippold) We can also use an old proverb or famous quotation. Instead of translating into multiple languages, how about sticking to one of the old ones? Like Latin or Greek? (Suggested by sunk8) "
Regardless of the solution, I agree that we should try to find some kind of commonality across all localisations if at all possible. But this may only be a wish rather than what could be achieved across so many different native language groups.
In the meantime, I have created an ES wiki page to start collecting different slogans that the ES mailist create.
