The Home Suite: Coming to Hamtramck features the newly formed
Hamtramck World Music Ensemble composed of six noted local musicians.
Under the direction of jazz keyboardist and Hamtramck resident, Bill
Meyer, the group blends styles and ethnic influences from around the
world. The partly improvised music is filtered through an American
lens while it accompanies interviews of Hamtramck immigrants from
countries as diverse as Bangladesh, Bosnia, Poland, Nigeria, England,
and Yemen.

The theme of ‘home’ is explored in the various musical styles and
interplays with the sentiments of leaving one’s home and finding a new
one in the multi-ethnic city of Hamtramck. The video interviews
alternate with five music movements that explore the many meanings of
home and the passions that accompany it.

The five music movements written by Bill Meyer include: Prelude,
Memories, Leaving, The Journey, Finale: Home
Alternating with four question segments from 18 Hamtramck immigrants answering:
(1) WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?
(2) WHY DID YOU LEAVE?
(3) DESCRIBE THE JOURNEY TO HAMTRAMCK?
(4) HOW IS YOUR NEW HOME IN HAMTRAMCK?
