From: Joseph Catron Sent: Friday, June 26, 2015 1:15 PM Except that WSJ article does not tell us that Israel is treating Nusra patients, it only tells us that they do not do a check at the border when a wounded person turns up. "[T]he border," eh? Me: the “border” between the Israeli-stolen part of the Syrian Golan and the rest of Syria. If you are trying to score cheap points about a bit of language casually dropped, then yes, it is cheap. I’m talking about the separation line, if you prefer, that Assad has never challenged in half a century, not even symbolically, and not even diplomatically in any vigorous sense. So therefore it is not out of the question that some of the fighters (most are civilians) might have been Nusra. From territory Nusra has controlled since roughly the same time this little humanitarian project began? Yes, I imagine one or two of them might have been. Me: Nusra has controlled bits, some FSA have controlled bits, various “armed groups” probably not affiliated to anyone control bits, its all extremely fluid, these armed groups regularly fight battles with each other there, media has in the past reported Israel had provided some material aid to unnamed militias near the separation line precisely in order for them to keep Nusra away, really how would you know? But for someone who accepts second hand articles that write that the UN reports say Israel is supplying Nusra, a straight out lie about what is in the reports, then how would you know of all the different militia and armed groups there who regularly fight each other, because you’d have to actually go to the reports first hand to find that out. But of course Assadist “left” propaganda is better than that. I would ask how you could possibly have any idea about military status of most, but have a sinking suspicion the answer might be "Israeli leftists" again. Me: I don’t, but as above, the UN reports at least give an idea of the fluidity. You on the contrary prefer propaganda that says only Nusra is there, but I won’t ask you how you “could possibly know” because I assume the answer is that Asa Winstanely or someone like that said so. I guess if a fellow's determined enough to believe a thing, I'd be a fool to squander my time trying to persuade him otherwise. Me: I guess if a fellow is so sure that all, or most of, the wounded patients being treated in Israeli hospitals are Nusra (on the magnificent basis that Israel doesn’t check for their Nusra membership cards in their pockets), then he would probably also think it is perfectly OK for a lynch mob to attack an ambulance, pull out a wounded patient who you know nothing about, and murder him. I’d be a real fool to think I could persuade him differently, but fortunately he’s not the only person in the discussion. I repeat: would the IDF have been standing around watching, as the reports now suggest they were doing, while a Palestinian mob attacked an ambulance the IDF was ferrying, pulled out patients, and killed them? I suspect not. -- "Hige sceal þe heardra, heorte þe cenre, mod sceal þe mare, þe ure mægen lytlað." _________________________________________________________ Full posting guidelines at: http://www.marxmail.org/sub.htm Set your options at: http://lists.csbs.utah.edu/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
