It might be of interest for comrades that the official HTS website shows a video about a rally in Idlib City in commemoration of Raed Fares.

This confirms my suspicion that HTS was not behind this assasination. (Of course it is no final proof.)

More to the point, there have been continuous protests against HTS in Idlib that have not led to massacres.

"Notably, many activists mentioned that HTS does not attack or disperse demonstrations. The group usually does not even suppress the protests against it, especially in areas where it has limited influence. HTS does not usually attack such demonstrations due to concerns about the consequences of such actions which could lead to direct confrontations with local communities. The group is smart enough to know that any struggle with local communities is a lost battle. Such fights cannot be won by military means."

Meanwhile, here's the HRW on the pure as the driven snow YPG:

Human Rights Watch also investigated the violent incidents in Amuda (Amûdê) on June 27, 2013, when YPG forces used excessive force against anti-PYD demonstrators, shooting and killing three men. PYD security forces killed two more men that night in unclear circumstances, and a third the next day. On the night of June 27, YPG forces arbitrarily detained around 50 members or supporters of the Yekiti Party in Amuda, and beat them at a YPG base. The YPG and local authorities should conduct a truly independent investigation into the incident and hold accountable those who arbitrarily held, beat, or used excessive force against detainees and protestors.
