Of course it would. By the time that swine MacArthur "returned" the Japanese had long been strategically defeated and were in a lost endgame. They had no way to maintain their presence. The strategic purpose of the US reoccupation of the Philippines was restoration of it's colonial rule through the violent suppression of the Hukbalahap resistance. Not to oppose even a moment's US presence in the Philippines would have been total capitulation to social-imperialism.
