Well, I give the bourgeoisie a bit more of an internationalist outlook-- they saw what was happening in Europe prior to the November election; they certainly were aware of the resentment, left/right and undifferentiated to TARP, they knew that they were in danger of, in Bush's words, having "this sucker go down," they knew what the prospects were for the automakers, etc. etc. I don't think they really wanted a good friend of Charles Keating and the old S&L swindle group as their front man in 2008. Get somebody new, somebody clean, somebody smooth, somebody malleable. And I don't think the US capitalists give a rat's ass what the rest of the world's capitalists thinks of them. Hobbes' categorical imperative is the organizing principle-- war of all against all.
