I had recently left the CISPES regional office in NYC to travel to Ecuador when all this occurred. Ethan's informed explanation is exactly what I had heard from some of the other members of the group. I must say the LOM did some very good work with CISPES, and they were treated somewhat shabbily by the professional (paid) cadre in the office. The FMLN folks could not quite understand the reasons behind the friction between the two groups. Anyway, I recall coming back in 1990 or so and going to a party in Brooklyn at the apartment of one of the LOM members, and they all seemed to be pretty depressed, like someone had died, and they were in mourning, but were doing their best to carry on.
