I have to say, I think the term Black Americans creates a monolith that makes this thread seem like folks are missing the point. Even saying the white working class is problematic from a number of angles, the least of those, that it helps create an in and out group that can then feel victimized. https://wildcatdispatches.org/2016/11/28/lisa-tilley-the-making-of-the-white-working-class-where-fascist-resurgence-meets-leftist-white-anxiety/
And for folks who don't think NGO of any sort don't exert influence, some folks in social movement studies rely on resource mobilization theory that covers all of this. Funny, most of the proponents like John McCarthy liked to think getting the bucks for NGO was great and what all movements must do to survive and create change. He hated when I brought up research that showed the opposite when I took his course on social movements in grad school; research shows that did indeed change the groups, big money wants something back. McCarthy simply shrugged most of my arguments away as money for quan studies don't flow for folks looking at Marxian politics quantitatively and I didn't have the data (then) to support my claims. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
