Louis: I was not going to add further on COVID here as there are some very good to excellent articles from even such as Michael Roberts. but perhaps a physician viewpoint dredging thu' the medical literature may be of help. Here I examine (i) the data on death rates in Sweden (2) work on 'excess mortality' in Sweden (3) and for good measure some data on death rates and face masks & (pre-peer review) data on social distancing & death rates. One of the list members as he pointed out himself has self-corrected from my first article on the COVID issue (March 17th). The other certainly has not and I feel this has led to some confusion - judging from some remarks. Anyway I hope this helps. As for the point that you make about long term consequences, there will be more data forthcoming upon this I am sure. But in general you are quite right. My patient population of interest was preterm babies. Follow-up of these babies who survive into what matters (i.e. not just the pure death rates by becoming discharged from the ICU) is how they do at 2 or 5 years (we will not even talk about outcomes at adulthood). Routinely - followup rates are in the order of 50-70 % whereas to avert the risk of systematic bias they should be >90%.
