I agree with Louis. It is futile debating or discussing with the Covid 19 denialists. I'm in some Facebook groups of construction workers and we have our share of them in those groups. They deny it because the reality is inconvenient to them. Yes, it is uncomfortable to wear a facemask. So, like a six year old child who doesn't want to wait to have a cookie, they deny it's necessary. And for socialists, yes, it causes huge problems, including the impossibility of organizing meetings. So a similar psychology is at work.
It sounds very radical, revolutionary in fact, to see the pandemic as being a big conspiracy, the deaths exaggerated, etc. In fact, what that does is cover up for capitalism. This pandemic, like the rapid increase in new zoonotic diseases, is a result of capitalist production's clash with the forces of nature. Specifically, factory farming and the destruction of wild habitat. If Michael Probsting is not satisfied that enough people have died from Covid, he is advised to wait awhile. While Covid "only" has a mortality rate of around 1% apparently, the next zoonotic disease pandemic may well have a mortality rate of 10, 20, 50 percent or even higher. Unless we end factory farming and reverse habitat destruction. John Reimann PS. When the pandemic first hit the headlines, I dismissed it similarly to how Michael does. I had seen similar zoonotic diseases come and go - swine flu, aviary flu, etc. - without much damage.
