I don't know of any systematic look at this, but Kautsky used it a fair amount. In 1896, he wrote exchange on historical materialism. https://www.marxists.org/archive/kautsky/1896/histmat/index.htm

In 1902, we have the aims and limitations of the materialist conception of history: https://www.marxists.org/archive/kautsky/1902/08/aims-limitations.htm

1906 gives us Ethics and the materialist conception of history: https://www.marxists.org/archive/kautsky/1906/ethics/index.htm
