In such regards, some Maoists currents historically viewed the late USSR as social-imperialist power and consistently to their theory believed of any ally of USSR being a pro-imperialist proxy. Hence, for them, Ba'ath party regimes illustrated puppets of the USSR and essentially they are from start were more critical and view Arabian "Socialists" capitalists as a comprador class.
