John Reimann, I'm not sure what you are advocating for here. In the last couple of decades or so, we have seen plenty of large street level movements and organizing. The Iraq/Afghanistan antiwar protests, Occupy, BLM, the George Floyd protests, we all know the litany. A lot of us learned years ago, at least after Occupy, that mass organization alone will not lead to movements that will lead to societal change to the degree we saw in the 1960s. Even the Gillets Jaunes in France seem to have fizzled out. It's not the 1960s anymore, the left needs to up its game somehow. I don't know what the solution is, but I can't help but I see a lack of strong socialist leadership as part of the problem.I don't know if this lack of leadership is due to the strong degree of fractured sectarianism among the left, out of fear of retaliation by the state, a combination of both, or other factors I am not aware of.
As for unions, anyone who is involved with any kind of socialist or Marxist organizing, is sure to know workers who are trying to radicalize their unions outside of the Democratic Party, and what an uphill struggle this can be. The union member who voted for the orange baboon is a real thing. https://inthesetimes.com/article/trump-voters-labor-unions-election-2020 https://www.politico.com/news/2020/09/22/donald-trump-union-support-snub-joe-biden-418329 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
