I hope the DSA's visit to Venezuela reflects a willingness to campaign strongly
against the US economic blockade.

Economic blockades are a key weapon in US imperialism's efforts to crush any
government that defies it in any way. Socialists in the United States need to
educate people to oppose this economic warfare.

The blockade has caused extreme hardship in Venezuela.

We can criticise the Venezuelan government, but the main task of socialists in
the US and its allies such as Australia is to oppose the blockade.

Subject: Re: [marxmail] DSA Delegates Meet With Maduro

The support by the majority of the leadership of DSA for Maduro raises a
question: In my view, DSA is basically a reformist group that is directly and
indirectly linked to the Democratic Party. It tends to limit itself to what is
acceptable to at least the "left" wing of the Democrats. For example, it
ignores the fact that "medicare for all" is completely inadequate and what is
really needed is socialized medicine - taking the medical industry out of the
fee-for-service, for profit "free" market. It has no serious critique of the
Green New Deal. On and on. So, why is it that on the issue of Venezuela an
apparent majority of the DSA leadership seems to break with its subservience to
the left of the Democratic Party? In my view, it is kind of a cover for their
their reformist position overall. They can appear very "left" on this issue
without really disturbing class relations, without building an independent
movement of workers here at home. In fact, they know that the overwhelming
majority of workers here would not support their position. In this sense, it
shows how divorced they are from the working class.

This whole affair reminds me of the liberals back in the 1930s and on who were
fellow travelers, supporting Stalin.
