#yiv0452067677 P {margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;}Socialists in the United States
should be campaigning for an end to the US blockade of Venezuela.  This
includes organising demonstrations in support of that demand.
John Reimann seems to prioritise criticising Maduro over campaigning against
the blockade, despite tokenistic references to the latter.
Economic blockades are a key weapon of US imperialism in suppressing challenges
to its dominance.  The US working class should be educated to oppose the use of
this weapon.

Subject: Re: [marxmail] DSA Delegates Meet With Maduro It is interesting to
watch the evolution of some of the supporters of such Bonapartist regimes as
that it Venezuela. It wasn't so long ago that they were fully supportive of the
Chavez/Maduro regime. They claimed that all the problems that existed there
were due to the US sanctions. When that claim became untenable, they turned to
accepting that that regime has some problems but that that our task is to
campaign against "the enemy at home", meaning opposing the sanctions. That is
the one and only task. Now, there is a new modification - our "main" task is to
oppose the sanctions.
Of course, socialists and the wider working class should oppose the sanctions,
but if that is all or nearly all we talk about, then it will be confusing to
ourselves. And to the extent that the activity registers at all on the working
class of Venezuela it will also be confusing to them. It will amplify the
impression for which Maduro is responsible - that "socialism" has anything in
common with the corruption, mismanagement and repression which characterise
that capitalist regime. Or, put another way, that socialism means misery,
exploitation and repression. Socialists must make clear that we have nothing in
common with that regime (while also making clear our opposition to US
imperialism).
