A plain mis-statement of fact. Deng began the restoration of capitalism in 1978, two years after Mao Zedong died. He and his mafia spent the 1980s dismantling the people's communes, purging millions of veteran Party members, converting the universities into a hierarchy, and so on. From the mid-80s the first foreign corporations entered joint ventures in China. The surge of U.S. industry outsourcing to China dates from the early 1990s.
