Real change always requires class struggle. Can we agree on that? Powerful
social forces shape popular awareness in their interests and deny the ills of
overconsumption and the limits of growth. Our tradition teaches that it is the
experience of class struggle that enables people to see the class relations
that are at work in ecological destruction. It is therefore the movement that
matters, and our strategy, tactics, and demands that can overcome the fear with
a clear understanding of its necessity.
The current state of the ecological struggle is not good in the US. The
popular remedy is to purchase an electric car and accelerate resource
throughput rather than reduce it.
