I agree --- it is a fabulous series --- in a sense the writers were
re-creating the Camus novel La Peste (down to a doctor being a "hero" in
the village) --- the ambivalence of the Communists during the period before
the Soviet Union was attacked is quite well done I think ...

(the very ending was I thought very contrived but ....)
