The flaws in the policies of FDR and Truman are not arguments for accepting them in the Clinton-Obama-Harris incarnation of the Democratic Party. They're apples and oranges . . . and actually rather rotten apples and moldy oranges at that.
Both Build-back-better and negotiations over drug prices were relatively positive, but there is nothing about them than would have been acceptable to the Nixon administration, particularly when coupled to the Democratic embrace of anti-immigration measures, the expansion of fossil fuels, etc.. For decades, the Democrats have fully contributed alongside the Republicans to the greatest polarization of wealth any nation every experienced in all of human history. Neo-liberalism runs the assumptions behind policies. Do we see any signs of repudiating those assumptions? Political coalitions not only shape policies and their underlying assumptions, but are that those assumptions and policies reshape the coalitions. The New Deal coalition worked, in part, because it built itself, drawing into those expanding government institutions people who would not have been there in previous administrations. In sharp contrast, if we look at the composition of the current Democratic coalition, we have an administration and a Congress composed of gung-ho militarists, former prosecutors, professional security consultants, ex-FBI, ex-CIA, former this-and-thats who have not only made the neo-liberalism of the "New Democrats" but are themselves products of it. This is why we've not been surprised about their laissez-faire approach to police brutality or their positions on Gaza or their guzzling alongside the Republicans at the fossil fuel trough. https://www.citizen.org/article/bidens-oil-letdown/.
