Orthodox you. I may be too expansive with terminology, and that is a problem,
but it's not of my own making:
"The movement was a united front of a special type, not between mass
organizations of the working class for a concrete set of demands, but between
diverse and multiclass elements whose sole bond of unity was to oppose the war.
It had to confine itself to implementing actions around that central purpose in
order to hold together."

This is the sense in which I use the term. It's not my worse abuse of
terminology. I've been caught abusing "popular front" as well, again it was
not my own invention:
"The inevitable logic of a multi-issue umbrella including such groups as SANE
would have to be a coalition of radical-liberal forces subordinated to the
multi-issue program of the liberal politicians, to a wing of the Democratic
Party, in the practicalities of the situation. In Marxist terminology, the
technical name for such a coalition is a 'popular front.'"
- Fred Halstead, Out Now!, page p 109
More people seem to tolerate the expansion of the definition of 'united front'
than Fred Halstead's adaptation of 'popular front.'
