I think all the evidence is that Lenin wanted a normal social democratic party but unlike his opponents in the movement, he understood that it wasn't possible under Czarism, hence the "Leninist " party, which he never intended as a model, but as a necessary and effective instrument under conditions of dictatorship where ordinary legal organization and political activity were not possible.
