I agree with Mark B on this. I believe Sartesian was simply overstating his case. A wing of the capitalists have supported tariffs, not the ruling class as a whole. Most actually oppose them which I glean from the fact that only the talking heads in economic studies have commented favorably (a minority of them to be sure) but almost all industry big wigs have said nothing.
It has been noted that the largest *end* manufacturers of things like tractors (John Deer), construction equipment (Caterpillar), tools (Milwaukee), and so on have *opposed* tariffs strongly because almost all of them generate about half their revenue from overseas sales most notably in Asia generally and China specifically. So these capitalists were correct to raise their eyebrows at Trump inspired tariffs for fear or retaliatory tariffs leveled at their products. I doubt seriously, and I've never seen any evidence, that the capitalists have "flip flopped" on this question.
