apologies for the length and perhaps redundancy of what follows

I have been thinking about the parallels and differences between mid 20t
century fascism --- Hitler, Mussolini -- and the incoming Trumpist efforts
to remake "American Democracy"

The economics of Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy did "solve" the
problem of the Great Depression ---- whereas the US and Britain
successfully kept to their "model" of more or less democratic capitalism
while groping (Brit more than Yanks) towards the versions of Social
Democracy that came to dominate western Capitlaism from WW II to the
neoliberal era, Germany and Italy created new versions of capitalism.

The question is --- did both of those models HAVE to include imperial
outreach --- in other words, could they have remained "successful"
(relatively full employment) even if based on militarization WITHOUT
actually going out and invading other places?

I know Lenin argued that wars of redivision were inevitable in the era of
Imperialism and I remember the last few chapters of Paul Sweezy's THEORY OF
CAPITALIST DEVELOPMENT argued that imperial expansion (leading to wars of
redivision) were built into the system --- but I'm not sure that was true
and that leads me to wonder if an more autarchic (or "mercantilist") form
of capitalism under Trump can survive without the US attempting to
"protect' its empire from the rise of China and the BRICS ---

Trump's ridiculous stuff about Canada and Greenland is based on his
idiocies --- but in fact will the US and China completely butt heads? A
very good speaker at the recent American Historical Association meetings
said that the US and China are so intertwined economically that they CANNOT
"disengage" to engage in a "new Cold War" ---

This suggests that a new war of redivision is unlikely --

ON THE OTHER HAND (we economics with two damn hands!), there seem to be so
many potential areas of conflict it is hard to believe that "peace" is
inevitable.

SORRY FOR ASKING MANY MORE QUESTIONS THAN I HAVE POTENTIAL ANSWERS BUT if
Hitler and Mussollini HAD to go to war --- will the Trumpists have to do
the same --- or at least bully Denmark into SELLING Greenland and
renegotiating the Panama Canal treaty with Panama ---

Is a new international economic order based on MERCANTILIST principles what
Trumpism will create --- assuming the billionaires stay on bended knee as
did the industrialists of Germany and Italy for Hitler and Mussolini
