The evidence that Yossi Schwartz offers for the claim that Palestinians won the
war is nothing more than a single statement from a single Israeli General. For
over a year, most credible experts claimed that it was impossible to eliminate
Hamas owing to a variety of reasons including the nature of asymmetric warfare
and that Hamas is a social movement with more than a military wing [1]. It was
widely believed that Netanyahu's government was lying when it said it was
conducting the war with the goal to eliminate Hamas. Instead, it destroyed the
infrastructure of Gaza of essential services, e.g., 85% of the water and sewage
system has been destroyed according to one source [2], and Israel has at least
neutralized if not dismantled the international support system that supported
Hamas. Israel taught Hamas that Iran had put that system of alliances in place
to defend Iran and not to go to war for Palestine, which the Hamas leadership
(and RKOB) seemed to expect.

The real problem with this statement beyond the shoddy argument is to endorse a
failed strategy. If the 10/7 strategy of military warfare against the regional
power backed by a world power has led to this victory, it's impossible to say
what defeat would look like. It rejects alternative strategies such as proposed
by Gilbert Achcar: "The first, he [Achcar] said, is to lead a good part of
Israeli society to split from the ideology and path of Zionism. The second is
for the new Palestinian leadership to connect with the civil-rights movements
in the Arab world. The third is to expand and consolidate the international
solidarity that has been on the rise due to the horrific Israeli war on
Gaza."[3]
