Here is a sentence devoid of self-awareness. The sentence trolls someone by
accusing them of being a troll. It's also devoid of information, which is the
real offense here: The mission of marxmail displayed on our masthead is to
achieve more signal and less noise.
There is, of course, frequent trolling on marxmail, but when it comes with
useful information, with some signal, then it is easier for a moderator to
ignore. Such is the case, for example, with someone who, hypothetically, cannot
sustain an exchange on an important topic without insulting another or pissing
them off. But if the post at least they raises a meaningful topic along with
some information, we get more signal, perhaps than noise rather than no signal
and all noise.
Finally, something might be said about gender assumptions with Internet media:
Unless you have met the person in real life, or they share their pronouns, you
may very well guess their gender wrong. So why assume anything based on
someone's Internet handle?
