On an specific aspect of this discussion, one raised by Alex Dillard...the U.S. is in zero position politically or militarily to "impose" a new Shah-based regime in Iran. None. They can certainly destroy segments of the reactionary Islamic Republic but they can't decide who to put in its place. Iran has 90 million highly educated people. So good luck with that. there simply is no strategy the U.S. is articulating other than having the regime collapse, which could happen if the mobilizations continue. A repeat of Venezuela is simply a fever dream in Trump's head.
