Yes, and the general sense of decline in the American culture which is felt most acutely by white workers who have historically been the most privileged stratum of the working class. Now they are also confronted with a precarious job market and unaffordable housing, education, car ownership, dining and entertainment and other goods and services which were once accessible to their parents and grandparents. Which is why the backward-looking appeal to "make America great again", evoking images of the traditional white suburban family of the 50's, has been aimed at and has resonated most strongly with white workers and made them a more enduring bedrock of the Republican MAGA coalition. But even here cracks are beginning to show. As we've seen in the past year, Trump's failure to deliver on his boasts to bring down inflation and to bring back secure and well-paid manufacturing jobs has seen his support drop among white as well as non-white workers in NYC, Texas, and elsewhere. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
