Charles above divides ideology and economic and social circumstances into distinct categories. He does not seem to understand that they're inextricably linked with the material conditions having primacy. The DSA program reflects the material interests of its youthful college-educated base for secure jobs and affordable housing, transportation, food and other basic necessities. Its strategy reflects their desire to reform or split from the DP which they correctly see as part of the governing duopoly subordinating their needs and those of other wage and salary earners to those of the “billionaire class”.
