I can't vouch for its accuracy, but Google AI states that industrial/manufacturing workers now represent only a paltry 7.5% of the nonfarm workforce. College-educated workers (holding a bachelor's degree or higher) reportedly account for a whopping 38%-40% and clerical and administrative employees approximately 12%-13% of the US workforce. Precise breakdowns of the distribution between industrial, clerical, and college-educated workers can be elusive because of overlap and definitional issues, but the shifting balance between college-educated and those lacking higher education is also strikingly illustrated in the following graphs. These only track the period 1992-present so the even more dramatic shift from previous generations when the industrial workforce was dominant is not illustrated.
