So Charles says now, evidently embarrased by his misreading of the statistics. He is not a fan of the DSA and would not have volunteered to circulate an article demonstrating that many of its college educated members are found at the bottom quintile of the distribution rather than the top, as commonly portrayed. It's laughable that he tries to turn the tables by suggesting that "Gandall is the smug one" for comparing "his college generation at young adulthood versus today's college generation at young adulthood." I did do so, of course, not to demonstrate any sense of smug superiority but to illustrate my generation's good fortune to have come of age in the 60's when our labour was in demand as opposed to the current generation of transient gig workers whose living and working conditions have deteriorated since the so-called neoliberal turn beginning in the 80's. We're the luckiest generation in the history of Western capitalism, the only one to have escaped the poverty, depression, and war experienced by our parents and grandparents and their ancestors and one which has never had to confront the precarity, thwarted hopes and steadily declining living standards of our children and grandchildren.
