Abraham asserts information without any context for the "Jewish Nation" which has always been his theme. Trotsky's reference to Jews is something bounded by Russian, not world history. I've argued for decades now that the RSDWP (most wings) got it wrong in arguing against Bundist ascendancy in the Party as illegitimate because "Jews were not a nation". After October in *fact* the new Soviet gov't, Lenin and Trotsky included, recognized Russian-Yiddish speaking Jews as a "nationality" and granted self-determination. Yiddish was widely promoted and strengthened. So his later statement is at least in contradiction to the actions of the both the Bolshevik Party in power and in coalition with the other soviet parties.
The confusing "People" (capitalized by Abraham) and "Nation" concept doesn't hold up to the facts globally. Russian-Jews who spoke Yiddish had zero in common with assimilated German-Jews or Sephardi Jews or the Arabic speaking Jews of North African. Thus not a "People" but people who only share a somewhat common religious ancestry. Why Abraham hasn't addressed this but only asserted is unknown to me. There was a reason the Bund did poorly in countries like Hungary where the mostly Orthodox Jews of that nation hadn't moved away from obscuritist Orthodoxy to secular humanism and socialism. That reason was that the half-million Hungarian Jews generally spoke...German and Hungarian (in that order) and not Yiddish. That is because they were not members of the Jewish nationality we saw at one time in Russia and later the USSR.
