Per the OP, I "hope" the Trump gang tries something stupid with the elections. Like everything else they attempt, this will blow up in their faces, because they have demonstrated beyond all doubt that they are operational incompetents who have no concept of strategy. The GOP's already bad situation will become much, much worse.
The WSJ appears to share this perspective as worry, in its July 16th editorial, "The SAVE America Act Backfire". If that is wrong, then the only meaningful strategy is to prevent the seating of the next Congress. Because if the "plan" is to meddle with some swing districts/states, that's not going to be enough to keep control of Congress. The new House at least will be hostile, and must be suppressed, according to an possible strategy. Therefore any preparations made by the Democrats must include swearing in and convening the new Congress in another city, since DC is already under what is effectively a military occupation. I'd suggest NYC for security. It is impossible to know if anyone among the Democrats even contemplates this scenario. But the real question is not the Democrats' security issue, but a political one: Should DSA commit resources to a country-wide campaign to Defend the Vote? Will this build the DSA, especially with working class voters? But it is seemingly odd that the electorialist wing of the DSA blithely assumes elections will go forward without a hitch. Or on second thought, not so odd, if you are an electorialist! It will certainly be a punch in the face for electorialism if matters turn out otherwise. I'd put this in the same bucket as the New McCarthyist Red Scare Purge we are all supposed to fear. But this isn't Roy Cohn's favorite decade any more. The New Deal regime is disintegrating, not consolidating. I expect some pathetic attempts at ballot meddling followed by a hysterical "rigged election" campaign. Trump expects to be ousted from office by force. That's why he's in a panic to rush his "ballroom Führerbunker". That extraction will be the cherry on top of the whole faux-"fascist" farce.
