I too have a dsl connection using pppoe, and what you describe is most
definately an MTU problem. My providers newsgroup is full of guess's at
what the optimal MTU is, but there isn't much of a consensus. Apparently
the biggest it can be is 1492 on the internal machines, as well as the
external (ppp) interfaces. I have mine set to 1454, and it works
well. The internal interface gateway can be left at 1500.

particularly how to change your MTU on winboxes.
