PPP is the protocol the computer that is connected to the modem uses to
communicate with the Internet. So, no, I don't believe the PPP software
can run on a different computer connected to the local net, to operate the
modem.
Both computers on the local network use TCP/IP to talk to each other,
and the gateway computer uses PPP to talk through the modem to the
Internet.
