As one of the other writers said, the straightforward way to command
the PPP connection up and down from a host on the local network is to use
telnet to log into the gateway host, and then manually issue the command
ppp-on or ppp-off. In fact, this is how I do it, since I never did read
up on daild and get it going. I prefer manual control, anyway. This
assumes you use a locally customized ppp-on, as described in
/usr/doc/ppp-2.3.3/scripts.
