I am having some issues with Internet speed. I am using ADSL with great
success and I get great speeds from my Linux Masq Gateway to the Internet.
But I have noticed that the speed is quite noticeable slower if I download
a file to my Win98 machine through IP Masq then if I download it straight
from the Gateway itself. Is there a way to cure this? Also, after looking
into it further by using tcpdump I have found that one of my machines it
causing or doing funky things. Every second or so I receive a message that
says the following in the tcpdump;
adsl.ip.address > dns.my.isp: icmp: echo request
dns.my.isp > 192.168.0.19: icmp: echo reply (DF)
Does anyone know where this is coming from? Or why my Linux Gateway is
doing so many requests and why the reply is bouncing to my internal
address? There are no network oriented programs running on this system when
this is occurring... I have numerous other machines on this network and
only this one is causing this. Let me know if you can help.
