OK hope I don't get my ass kicked too hard on this one.
I'm using Red Hat 5.0 (2.0.32). I've got a router machine
running Linux with one NIC connected to my cable modem
and one NIC connected to an Ethernet hub. There are 3
machines connected to the hub - 2 Win95 and 1 dualboot
Linux/Win95. Browsing and email is outstanding. I can ftp out to
the internet. So things are real good.
I would like to ftp into the router machine from the outside
(and ftp to the router from the masqueraded network).
I can telnet into the machine from the outside world, but when I ftp, I get:
Connected to my.ip.address
421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection.
/etc/inetd.conf looks good, /etc/hosts.allow is good, /etc/services
is kosher.
The ftp package is on the machine. The HOWTO at indyramp has
a line that sort of implies "you can't get there from here", but
I'm not trying to get past the router, so it makes me think
that it really is possible, just that I've done something dumb
(or not done something as the case may be).
Thanks in advance for your help.
