Show us the pertinent parts of your /etc/hosts.allow, please.
I am able to ftp to/from my masq box from the outside world -- I have
lines in hosts.allow giving me access from several specific sites.
For example, from my client site at a.b.c.???, I have this:
all: a.b.c. #note the period at the end.
>From another client site, where they're using a big ISP, and dynamic
addressing, so I can't restrict it to just this one system, I only
allow telnet, like this:
in.telnetd: .denver.bigisp.net
Try something like this first.
> I would like to ftp into the router machine from the outside
> (and ftp to the router from the masqueraded network).
> I can telnet into the machine from the outside world, but when I ftp, I get:
> Connected to my.ip.address
> 421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection.
>
> /etc/inetd.conf looks good, /etc/hosts.allow is good, /etc/services
> is kosher.
> The ftp package is on the machine. The HOWTO at indyramp has
> a line that sort of implies "you can't get there from here", but
> I'm not trying to get past the router, so it makes me think
> that it really is possible, just that I've done something dumb
> (or not done something as the case may be).
