GI, I have an update on this issue. I have had some success!
I confirmed that with: ./configure --enable-everything -> PASTE does not work ./configure --enable-minimal -> it works!! But, the terminal does not look too sharp and I believe there are certain features I don't have. For instance the icons and scrollbar don't look good. Would you guess which configure option would be interfering with Paste? I will probably embark on a stepwise process of pulling in configure options 1 by 1 unless you have suggestions to short circuit the process. Try pressing Ctrl+Shift+c to paste. Alternately play with the argument to the Paste macro. "Primary" or "Selection" might work...
