We have developed latest Ubuntu 16.04 for our department which can install in uefi mode.. I can give you a copy..which will definitely solve your problem in a little effort..
For bios settings you should press specific key may be f2 in dell...and go to boot settings and find out bios mode.. Ubuntu 12.04 custom doesn't support uefi mode.
