Yes. All of the parameters of your network matter. It sounds like you have a 
full power system design problem you are working on. You will need to get help 
elsewhere for that problem. This discussion has already gone well beyond the 
normal MATPOWER specific questions this list is intended for.

I suggest you take your remaining questions to a local power systems expert.
