You can still easily create a matrix that corresponds to only the real 
generators (dimension 6 in your example). There is a lot of internal code that 
does something like …

ig = find(~isload(mpc.gen));

… and then uses ig to index the generator and gencost matrices to get info only 
for the real generators.
