Dear Dr Zimmerman,
Does the 'basekV' column in the mpc.bus matrix play
any role in the solution that matpower produces, or is
it only for presentation ?
So for example, 10 buses have 138kV and 5 others have
233kV as basekV.
Secondly, as it is possible to set in the objective
function the $/MVARh cost of generating Q, I would like
to ask about the realism of such a thing.
In reality, is there any such thing as cost of
generating a MVAR ?
As far as I know, the fuel cost is always in terms of
$/MWh.

MATPOWER does not include any functions to do this
automatically, but it is trivial with a few lines of
Matlab code using 'find' with a condition that
compares the actual MVA flows to RATE_A and actual bus
voltages with VMIN/VMAX.
