This happens to me occasionally, and appears to be related to a low memory condition in the box. Since this is not a Matterhorn issue feel free to contact Epiphan support, but I suspect the solution will be reboot the box (remove power, wait, give power) and try again. Lowering the encoding settings can also free up memory internally. For what it's worth, 2.2.0rc1 is quite old, and they've fixed lots of the memory issues.
