I'm not sure if Flash is needed anywhere in the distribution chain. The Engage player will play .mp4's with progressive download. You can get segment previews with mp4-->mov. You can get OCR with mp4--> tif. Not sure about mp4's with Red5. Last time I tried it didn't work.
The only issue I currently have is very poor lip-sync when playing mp4's via the Engage player.
