hmm, what about the DVI2PCIe-devices; are they a better choice? Or
are they also only working as custom devices, as I would guess from
what I hear from Rüdiger.

You can use them as custom devices, but they won't work the same way the
VGA2USB devices do. In a way I guess it would be a simple patch to support
them too, but currently somewhere in the code it is checked that the name
of the devices contains the substring VGA2USB as far as I know.
