I agree. And it really looks like he was working on that thing a long 
time. I'm happy about the references to older versions though, because 
we are using both 7.3 and 7.4.
But you mentioned the biggest pro: I can't find books dealing with
SAP DB / MaxDB. 
There are some articles, but they don't help you at your daily work. 
And although like you, I don't particularly like the style of
Stefan Wichmann's book, it helps me with my daily work. That is 
also a big pro I guess, and the reason why I recomended it.
But than, after now two years of training I can even recommend
the SAP DB Reference Manual. And I remember very well how much
I swore on that thing the first months :))
