I was thinking the same thing, but I hate to burden my customers with 
the task of reauthorization. That doesn't reflect well on my company. 
We should be taking care of this for them, not making work for them. 
And also all the people that lose their codes and put the pressure on 
customer service here. Uggg. Of course, we can always READ the old 
prefs, and resave it to the new place invisibly too.

Couple questions:

Before Lion, wasn't the proper place to put preferences was the 
SharedPreferences folder, not the SharedApplicationData folder? 
Serial numbers are really a Preference, not application data. But 
maybe that's splitting hairs.

But.. why did you not switch placement to the 
SpecialFolders.ApplicationData folder /Users/[you]/Application 
Support/OurFolder? Why did you decide SpecialFolders.Documents? Why 
would you store application serial numbers in a Documents folder? 
That's not a document at all.
