session hosted by the Berkeley Scientific Journal (BSJ), UC Berkeley's
premier undergraduate research journal. Hear about a diverse set of
opportunities, from writing your own science articles to conducting
interviews with UC Berkeley faculty.

health, or children's health, then AMWA might be the perfect organization
for you!
The American Medical Women's Association is a national professional
organization of doctors, residents, and students. UC Berkeley's AMWA
chapter was one
of the first undergraduate chapters in the country. In the two years that
AMWA Berkeley has been an active organization, we have been recognized
multiple times by the national office for our initiatives and achievements.
AMWA-Berkeley offers opportunities to participate in a mentorship programs
with UCSF medical students, community service projects through committees,
and professional development through networking and leadership roles.
Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, September 15th from 6-7 pm (location

Join us for the 10th Annual Biology Majors Fair!
Thursday, September 17, 12pm-2:00pm in the VLSB Lawn (North side, between
VLSB and Strawberry Creek)
CAL offers more than a dozen bio-related major options. Stop by the

The UCDC Program is a UC-sponsored program which sends undergraduates to
Washington, D.C. each semester to participate in prestigious internships
and research projects for a full semester of UCB academic credit.
Students have described this experience as life-changing and one which jump
starts careers, distinguishing participants from other graduates after
college.
Want to learn more? Come to our information session in Barrows Hall. An
alumnus of the program will speak about his or her experience and we'll be
there to present internship information and answer any of your questions.

*UC Berkeley MHIRT Fellowship Program*
The Minority Health/Global Health Disparities Research Fellowship is a
fully-funded international summer research program that aims to promote the
participation of under-represented students in health sciences research. It
is part of the nation-wide "Minority Health and Health Disparities
International Research Training" (MHIRT) initiative, sponsored by the U.S.
National Institutes of Health. The Minority Health/Global Health
Disparities Research Fellowship at UC Berkeley focuses on infectious
disease research, particularly for diseases that disproportionately impact
people in developing countries and/or minority communities within the U.S.
To be eligible to participate students must be:
-3rd or 4th undergraduate students with a minimum 3.0 GPA
-Must be U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
-From underrepresented minority groups defined as African American,
Latino/a American, Alaskan Native, Hawaiian Native, Native American and
Pacific Islander
OR:
-Low income based on annual income thresholds defined by the U.S. Census
Bureau. Applicants must demonstrate that they have (a) qualified for
federal disadvantaged assistance; or (b) received any of the following
student loans: Health Professional Student Loan (HPSL); Loans for
Disadvantaged Student Program; or scholarships from the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services under the Scholarship for Individuals with
Exceptional Need.

*VOLUNTEER: Writer Coach Connection*
WriterCoach Connection (WCC) is a great way for students of all majors to
share their interests with younger students and make a difference in the
local educational system. As WCC writing coaches, Cal Students gain
hands-on experience working in diverse public school classes while helping
teens develop crucial thinking and writing skills. Middle and high school
students are especially fond of their college coaches who quickly become
role models and mentors.
Coaches commit to a regular, 1-2 hour per week assignment and meet weekly,
2-4 times per month, during the school day, to work one-on-one with
students in their English classes at local schools such as Berkeley High
School and Willard Middle School.
We are currently recruiting coaches for Fall 2015. WCC makes it easy to
volunteer by providing a condensed three-hour training for Cal students.
Our trainings provide step-by-step strategies to help students develop
writing and thinking skills so you don't need to be a writer or English
