I currently have openings for at least one Junior Research Specialist, an ideal position for a recent MCB graduate seeking to gain a couple years of research experience before applying to medical or graduate school. I also have openings for part-time volunteers for current undergraduates. My lab is primarily focused on identifying the mechanisms by which cohesin gene mutations cause tumor development and identifying therapeutic methods to target the many cancers harboring cohesin inactivation. My prior work on this topic has led to publications in high profile journals including Science, Nature Genetics, and PLoS Genetics. Please get in touch if you or someone you know is interested. We train top students and pair them one-on-one with serious cancer patients to give those patients a better shot at living longer and better. We like the think of it as Teach For America...for healthcare. Our students attend doctors' appointments, research potential adjuvant therapies and clinical trials based on that patient's specific biomarkers, have sat-in on Tumor Boards, etc. Upon graduation, for Year Two as a gap year, students are employed full-time at *Take*the*Fight* Headquarters in NYC, to problem-solve at a systemic level the issues they experienced in the health system while fighting cancer alongside their patient.
